Run your own ezine or thinking of starting one? If so, this article will prove crucial in helping you quickly build your list. All you'll need for this super-easy 3-step method is a website, a reasonable amount of traffic, and a few hours.
Here we go...
Step #1: Write a KILLER description.
Write a 2- to 3-line "ad" for your ezine, briefly summarizing your STRONGEST benefit in the headline. It'll need to catch the reader's attention AND cause them to read on. You only have a few seconds, so make it good.
If feasible for your business model, put the word "free" in your headline, while also remembering to target the specific type of visitor that you want to read your ad and join your ezine. The rest of your ezine's description should list a few key points that would interest the type of readers you're targeting with your headline.
Don't make the mistake of trying to tell people EVERY reason why they should subscribe. The purpose of the description is to get them to visit your ezine's website OR subscribe on the spot.
Step #2: Hooking up your website.
Using the description you just wrote, put a subscribe form on EVERY page of your website, at the top or bottom of the page.
TIP: Unless you have a more important offer to put at the top of the page, put your subscribe form there. It all depends on what your site's primary and secondary goals are.
For more help determining these and designing your site according to them, see "That Left-Hand Side: 6 Steps To Turning Your Site Into A Potent *Sales Machine*".
You'll be surprised at the number of new subscribers you'll get each day that never even visit your ezine's home page, but will subscribe right from the form on the other pages of your site.
If you don't want to put it at the top of your page and detract from your content, you could put it in the top left- or right-hand corner of each page for a similar effect. You can also see how I've set this up at the URL above.
Step #3: Get those first-time visitors!
Now, here's the clincher. Use the description you wrote in step 1 to craft an even more detailed one, and put it at the very top of your site's HOME page.
Make sure to make this description VERY closely related to your site's theme, for two reasons. One, so you don't have visitors thinking they've arrived at the "wrong site," and turn them away. And two, because you want your ezine to appeal to most of your already targeted website visitors.
Real-World Results...
This common sense 3-step formula immediately boosted my daily signup rate by 135%.
Where I used to only get an average of 7 subscribers a day, I started getting an average of 12 per day, just by adding a subscribe form to each page of my site.
And when I added the form to the top of my home page, it brought me up to an average of 16.5 (15-18) subscribers a day -- more than double what I was getting initially, and all with *no on-going work* on my part!
Every little bit helps.
Now, I get about 30 subscribers a day from the site subscribe forms, my home page subscribe form, and subscribe forms on my partner websites. Oh ... I didn't tell you the "partnership" part? Sorry! ;-)
